Design is wish fulfilment. I wish I was by the sea; I wish for a design to take form, to achieve a shape that I can see in my mind, but the hand and eye are imperfect. It happens in writing too: I know exactly what I want to say until I try to say it. Wish fulfilment short circuits the process, and would be a kind of magic - but the magic of creativity is that there is no magic (thank you, Seth Godin).
